We do important work every day to make a good life in Helsinki a reality on as many levels as possible. With us, every employee can do work that affects the lives of millions and lead a full life in their own way.
Wondering what your day at work might look like with us? Read what our employees have to say!
Anna, food service officer
As the food service officer of a school restaurant, Anna ensures that about 250 primary school pupils in grades 1–5 and staff members receive a nutritious and tasty lunch every day with varying salads and beverages. Her tasks also include planning and preparing snacks for children in the afternoon club, customer service, taking care of the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining hall, and self-monitoring and office work.
“I like the diversity of my work. We have an excellent team and supervisors, and our customers are also lovely and happy. The work is done during the daytime, which I think is a good thing, and we can also usually take our holidays during the holiday season. Another good thing about the job is its stability and reliability. We have been working all the time, even though the restaurant industry has been in turmoil,” Anna says.
Riikka, nurse
Riikka works as a nurse in Palvelukeskus Helsinki’s safety phone services, where she receives safety phone alerts together with other nurses. The nurse’s job is to assess the client’s need and urgency of care and arrange assistance visits accordingly. Occasionally, the nurses themselves can also participate in assistance visits or help with remote care at Palvelukeskus Helsinki, which brings nice variety to the work.
“One of the best things about the job is that no two days are ever the same. Sometimes it’s quiet and at other times you have to hurry. Personally, I also like the responsibility I have as a shift manager for the safety phone service and the fact that I sometimes get to maintain my practical skills by taking part in the assistance visits. The clients and their families are often grateful for the help. A job well done is also acknowledged in the workplace with thanks and sometimes also with rewards,” Riikka says.
Teemu, food and cleaning services
One of the many experts behind school meal planning is Teemu. Meals planned by Teemu and his team are eaten every day by about 44,000 people in 120 schools and educational institutions in Helsinki, so we are talking about quite large amounts of food!
“For my part, I want to overturn the idea of school food being old-fashioned, unpleasant and dull. It’s great that Palvelukeskus Helsinki invests in product development and time is allowed for recipe planning. For me personally, it’s very important that school meals are well thought out and carefully planned,” Teemu says.
Viveka, team supervisor, care services
“Our work has an impact on the lives of very many people in Helsinki: senior citizens and their families. We are one of the global pioneers in remote care, and we do meaningful work that really makes a difference. Remembering this and reminding others of this will help you cope, even when you’re busy.”
Viveka works as a team supervisor in Palvelukeskus Helsinki’s telephone and well-being services, where, among other things, remote care and safety phone services are provided to home care clients. Every day, Viveka and her team have remote meetings with more than 1,000 senior citizens of Helsinki and are involved in securing their daily lives.
